| | Haiku with One Deep Breath #3 -- Spring's Song Risk

This week the prompt over at One Deep Breath was an encouragement to slow down and listen to spring's song.
When I finally got over there and read it, I burst out in laughter. Just the night before when I opened our door, I was accosted by spring's song. It turns out that the swamp critters took a great risk though. Great Swamp's sweet Spring song
burst forth in eve's cacophony;
next night frozen mute. This image is of a revisit of a swamp dawning at the end of last August.

Don't worry, I don't blame internet germs. I figure it is just slightly more likely I caught it from my husband. ;)
~ LOL Don't worry. I started feeling some better yesterday and wrote an epic length response to your interview questions ... now all I have to do is clean it up and get it posted.
I'm sorry you're coming down with this stuff. It's no fun.

| | | Is it bad that I chuckled a little at the last line?
Do you have a quick description (or place to find it) of what a haiku is? I know that limericks have a specific count and the last word in every other line has to rhyme but i can't figure out haikus.
~ No. I'm sure they do this in fits and starts every spring. The next time that they come out and sing I am going to record them and put it up on YouTube. I am. Really.
There are some excellent resources listed at One Deep Breath. The list is on the right down under their badge/button. There's enough reading there to keep a body entertained for hours. I just clicked around until I found someone speaking in short quick sentences that I could understand at the moment. But, now, I'm dieing to go back and explore more. Enjoy yourself! ~me | | |

| | | This is my response to atypical's comment on my haiku. It got chopped off at the knees when I originally posted it. So here's the repost.
~Ok I'll come collect those questions. I may use them as a distraction in the morning while Billy is at church. Mending, yes. Well, no. So bummed.
Here's how I've been handling the Haiku: Early in the week I go over and read the prompt and then I just let it sit in my head for a few days ... little bits and pieces will show up ... If I'm really fond of the few words, sometimes I'll scratch them down on something.
Then I'll decide I'm actually going to sit down and write it. I find that I'm usually only full of vague ideas until I sit still. Then as soon as I put pen to paper it starts to crystallize. For me it's generally faster if I do use pen and paper rather than the pc (but not always).
I've read that there are physical brain reasons that the pen and paper often work better for creative writing -- at least to get it started. I also find this same technique works well for some of my dissertation length posts. But the pen and paper stage for them usually starts and finishes with a list -- then on to the pc.
Anyway all of that to say that the Haiku has turned out to be a much easier meme than I expected because they allow a full seven days between the prompt and the deadline. If it had to happen in 24 hrs, I wouldn't have the pleasure of holding the idea in my mind and turning it and turning it to enjoy its dimensions. Which is also the same reason I enjoy | |
